Local Area Agreement

North Lincolnshire sits on the south side of the Humber Estuary with its busy ports.  It covers an area of 85,000 hectares of which 89% is farmland - the main areas being the Lincolnshire Wolds, the Vale of Ancholme, the Trent Valley and the Isle of Axholme.  Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire’s major town, was founded on steel making.  Large scale steel production still continues but many other diverse industries and occupations exist in Scunthorpe today.  The population of North Lincolnshire is 156,500, with 69,110 living in Scunthorpe.

  • 20% of the population are under 16 years old

  • 23% of the population are over 60 years old

  • North Lincolnshire has a black and minority ethnic population of 2.25%

North Lincolnshire is an area of contrasts; the quiet rural areas may be the perfect place for many to unwind but without access to transport, it can isolate others from jobs or services.  Increasing house prices may be a sign of rising prosperity but may prevent first time buyers from entering the property market. This may lead to people renting private accommodation of poorer quality.  The robust economy is providing jobs but there remain pockets of long-term unemployment.  Although schools in the area have high levels of achievement and many students go on to university these students may not return to the area.  The majority of residents believe that they live in an area where people look out for each other, people from different backgrounds get on well together and feel that they belong to their neighbourhood and trust the people who live there.

The Local Area Agreement

This Local Area Agreement (LAA) sets out priorities for North Lincolnshire over the next three years.  It has been agreed between local partners in North Lincolnshire and with central Government.   The agreement contains priority outcomes for the five thematic partnerships of the LAA.  These include 12 LPSA2 projects with 'stretch' targets attracing additional Government grant if they are delivered.
