Sustainable Community Strategy
Why a Sustainable Community Strategy?
Local people want greater choice about improving their local areas and more say in how this is to be done. The government recognises this and wants to change the way that local councils and other organisations make their future plans.
The government has asked local organisations to work together to publish a community strategy that sets out how they will work with local people to improve their quality of life for the future. It is not just about publishing a strategy, but about finding new ways for partner organisations and the public to work together. It will encourage collective responsibility and
joint working to improve the delivery of those services that are important to local people.
Many of the key issues facing us cannot be addressed immediately or in isolation, so we have a long term vision for 10 years that is made up of related themes. Each theme includes several priorities for action that is needed to make progress towards our vision. We need to measure our progress and include indicators to show how we are doing. This will help us to see where more work needs to be done.
This community strategy is the long term framework that will influence all other plans and strategies produced by partner organisations such as the police and health services. Over time other strategies and plans will address the priorities set out here and provide further detail of the work that needs to be done. We will review our community strategy regularly to make sure that it continues to reflect local people's view of the future.
This document sets out our broad approach. At a later date we will also publish action plans to say in more detail what a number of specialist partnerships will do and by when.
